《隰Duet》為國立東華大學人文社會學院榮譽院長、英美語文學系曾珍珍教授之發想與規劃。曾教授生前致力於英美文學研究教學，擔任副院長期間更戮力改善、實驗新的教學方法，以慷慨、寬容的態度，鼓勵學生自主學習。2017年秋季（106學年度第1學期），曾教授規劃了一系列的「微課程」，邀請業界講師及校內教師共同授課。微課程的主題非常多元，含括「日記電影」的製作、網路媒體平台的經營創業、翻譯工作坊，以及文化創意產業等。

《隰Duet》的創刊號由英美系蔡淑芬主任、王君琦副教授、語傳系董克景主任與藝創系劉亮延助理教授協助指導，收錄本系列課程之成果，文章概略分為「當代議題」、「全球視野」、「在地花蓮」、「藝文創作」、「藝文評論」、「人物‧故事」等類別，期盼東華學子在學習、研究之餘，能將所學展現在日常生活關懷的不同面向，據以透過撰寫在地報導與藝文評論，推廣在地議題。

曾教授一直以來致力於於文學翻譯，更鼓勵學生從事翻譯。本刊同時以中、英雙語呈現，便是展現了「在地發生，放眼國際」之企圖，推廣在地議題、引介他國經驗，使得台灣東部與他國異鄉之雙向交流成為可能。

感謝人文社會科學學院王鴻濬院長的全力支持，提供本刊創立所需之協助，讓學生在自主學習的環境中提升學習效益，帶領人社院師生在實踐理想的路途上前進。

在未來，我們規劃每六個月出刊一期，內容將除集結人文社會科學學院師生之在地研究、實踐與學習成果外，更擴及本校其他學院師生之在地研究、實踐與學習成果，繼續延續「在地發聲、放眼國際」之精神，實踐人文關懷。

Duet was the brain child of Chen Chen Tseng, professor of English and honorary dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS), NDHU. Professor Tseng was devoted to the research and teaching of English and American literature during her lifetime. In the period of being the associate dean, she strived to improve and experiment using new teaching methods to encourage students toward self-directed learning with a generous and lenient attitude. In the fall of 2017, Professor Tseng arranged a series of "micro-courses," and invited both off-campus specialists and school teachers to instruct the courses. The subjects of micro-courses are diverse, including diary film making, online media platform startups, translation workshops and cultural creative industries.

The production of this first issue of Duet has been assisted and guided by Associate Professor Shu-Fen Tsai, the previous chair of the English Department, Associate Professor Chun-Chi Wang, the current chair, Associate Professor Ko-Ching Tung, the chair of the Department of Indigenous Language and Communication, and Assistant Professor Liang-Yen Liu, an instructor in the Department of Arts and Creative Industries. This issue includes the outcome of this series of courses and categorizes the articles into groups such as "Contemporary Issues," "Global Perspectives," "Local Hualien," "Creative Works," "Reviews: Book, Film, and Theater," and "Stories of People." We expect NDHU students to embody what they've learned in daily life concerns and, accordingly, to write local reports and reviews of arts and culture to promote local issues.

Professor Tseng was devoted to literary translation and encouraged students to get involved. Duet is presented in both Chinese and English languages to show the ambition of the "local scene; international vision," and makes possible the interaction between eastern Taiwan and other countries by the promotion of local issues and the introduction of foreign experiences.

We appreciate the dean of CHASS, Professor Hurng-Jyuhn Wang's full support in providing assistance for the start of Duet, which allows students to elevate the educational benefits in a self-directed learning environment, and to lead the faculty and students involved in CHASS to proceed in the manner of ideal practice.

We plan to publish one issue every six months in the future, and the content will include not only the collection of CHASS members' local researches, practice and learning outcomes, but also the collection of members from other colleges of NDHU to continue the spirit of "local scene; international vision" and put into practice their humanistic concerns.
